Tsubasa Chronicles

I've wanted to watch this anime for ages!! Not only is it by the legendary CLAMP but it also uses the same characters from Cardcaptor Sakura. That might sound a bit lazy of them since this is in no way sequel, but I love the Cardcaptor Sakura characters and I was so sad when the anime ended that I'm really happy to be able to see them live a new life in this anime. However this anime would strike a chord with any CLAMP fan as I am informed that it is the combination of all of CLAMP's series.
The plot follows Syaoran who was following his father's dream of being an archaeologist  But when Sakura, princess of his kingdom and childhood friend loses her soul Syaoran gives up his ordinary life to find her memories that have been scattered across many world's in the form of feathers. However in order to travel across the worlds Syaoran has to give his most important thing: his relationship with Sakura. As such, no number of Sakura's feathers will make her remember him. You wouldn't believe how sad it was when she woke up and just had no idea who Syaoran was!!
The series starts extremely lighthearted and comedic but quickly focuses more on the action and fight scenes.  But I think over all the balance is right. Albeit I think they spend too long in one world. It'd definitely be more exciting if they switched it up more often.

The fight scenes are definitely worth commenting on because the fighting style changes depending on what world they're in. However one thing is constant, Syaoran is a super badass fighter in whatever style he has to adopt. Which is silly really; why would an archaeologist be good at fighting for? Well, it does make for some very exciting fight scenes.
But Syaoran's not the only badass! When Syaoran and Sakura are sent to the dimensional witch to be able to cross to different worlds they are joined with Fye and Kurogane, as polar opposite as pair can get. Fye is always smiling - I mean ALWAYS - it's kind of creepy, but in general, he comes across as quite a friendly chap. He's travelling with Syaoran because he is running from something in his homeland and as such doesn't mind helping him out. He also seems to be the most intellectual out of the bunch despite his aloof nature. But his charm is definitely how he's always trying to give Kurogane a nickname. Every time he introduces him with a new childish nickname; I'm sure he does it to intentionally irritate Kurogane and every time Kurogane responds like a tsundere! Kurogane was exiled from his world for his ruthless hunt for power yet he yearns to return there. He was cursed too, if ever takes a life he will end up losing a bit of his strength. But that doesn't stop him being an angry and violent person. The complete opposite to the always composed Fye!
However one thing does connect the two: they are both amazing fighters. Kurogane being powerful is a given. Although he did have to give up his sword to travel across the world's his strength is undeniable. Fye is more surprising. Whilst still keeping that perfect smile plastered on his face he easily dodges and weaves any attacks. He's strong on offensive too, but it's his agility and composure that really caught my eye! Although this does kind of annoy me. In the party there is 3 almost faultless guys and one girl who just always needs protecting. Having all the guys so physically strong really highlights Sakura's feebleness and it almost makes me want to slap her!
Now we move onto two things of undeniable beauty: the art and the soundtrack. Well, do I really need to talk about the art? It's CLAMP after all. Mostly I love the clothes. However impractical they are, you cannot deny that they look very pretty!! But seriously, being the super warrior that he is you would've thought Kurogane would wear something more practical to fight in! Another point would be attention put into facial expressions. Rather than exaggerated smiles and frowns the series often uses more subtle expressions assert much more specific feelings. The animation is less impressive though. They cut a lot of corners by using a lot of still scenes and re-using old scenes a lot. Seriously, the ridiculously minute things that this show has flash backed to, and I'm only on episode 8 so there's only so many scenes that they have to flash back to anyway! Although the animation is pretty clean-cut for the fight scenes it's just a shame they had to be so lazy!
As for the music, it's produced by Yuki Kajiura. She's done music for so many anime series it's unreal! Fate/Zero, Puella Magi Madoka Magica and my personal favourite .Hack//SIGN. I love every thing she's done. She can capture every emotion perfectly whether it be in a piano solo a heart wrenching violin part or something completely unique! She often uses her own language in her songs and yet you can still understand what's being sung! It's just a perfect soundtrack that is used to good effect through out the series and her style matches perfectly with fantasy-romance.
I do think that a lot of the love comes down to the fact that I love CLAMP and I love Cardcaptor Sakura, so I somehow think people who have not previously experienced CLAMP won't find it as exciting - but then again, if you haven't experienced CLAMP then what are you doing with you're life? And although the animation seems to be a bit skint at times, CLAMP can easily make up for it with their beautiful art work. But I'm still near the begining of this saga of an anime series, isn't it entirely possible for this to become some kind of monster-a-week cash cow with no kind of progress in the story? From what I hear, no. But then some people think Naruto is a good anime. So what it comes down to is whether Tsubasa Chronicles is a cheesy cash cow for CLAMP or is it a beautiful bitter-sweet action-romance? I'll leave that question with you.

I'm not watching it dubbed, but since I couldn't find a subbed trailer, this'll have to do.
