The Girl Who Leapt Through time.

I bought this anime from HMV recently (only £5!!), I had already heard it mentioned before; mainly because of Nizo Yamamoto's (from studio Ghibli) presence as Art director. And so I was expecting the 'stunning visuals' that they promise on the back of the DVD. I was mistaken.
I absolutely LOVED the plot! It was so sweet! Ok, the opening scene was a bit odd and only vaguely related.... But after that it got better!
After having a little accident in a science room Makoto Konno found herself with the power to leap through time. So, of course, she went about making her own little school life a whole lot better. Avoiding accidents, passing tests, all those annoying day-to-day things. However, she soon finds out that it's not all good. Every bad thing Makoto avoids backfires onto someone else. In the end, she needs to put things right for her, and her love interest. The ending fails. Just let me get that out of the way. She could of had such a picture perfect ending. But no, she has to open her mouth! But other than the ending and the beginning, I thought the plot was absolutely hilarious! I was laughing so much! Then, about half way through it started to be a bit more serious (not much, just a little) and became absolutely adorable! It really tugged on the heartstrings.

As I said I was a bit disappointed in the art. I mean it was nice and pretty.... but not 'stunning'. There was no shading, none. Unless they were under a tree... but that's not my point. It was just block colouring. And all the characters looked pretty monotonous. But, it wasn't bad at least.
The characters themselves were all pretty entertaining. Makoto was so lively she was almost on Haruhi's level! And for those who don't know Haruhi, (shame on you) she is VERY lively. They're mostly lively actually, most of the humour comes from their stupidity!
The main flaws: the stupid ending which made me want to beat my T.V. up; the disappointing art; the lack of a soundtrack (in my opinion the movie lacked in music) and the whole reason the plot happened (the whole thing was actually just because some dude REALLY wanted to see some painting!). That's actually quite a lot of flaws, I don't usually feel the need to list them in that manner but it seemed the easiest way to get my point across. This movie should fail... A LOT! But, it's cuteness overwhelms me! I can't help but adore the almost romance and all the comical scenes! How can I not love it? I'm a total sucker for cuteness!
So, in conclusion, if you like cuteness: you'll probably love this film. If you're more into an actual plot and pretty art: you probably won't like this film.
