Eureka Seven

Hey! Did you know it's my Birthday tomorrow?~ ;)
Eureka Seven is probably the strangest mechas I've found! There's this hobby a lot of people do in this anime, "lifting". But using specially electrically charged winds and using special boards one can essentially surf in the sky! Pretty cool, but it gets better! Robotic suits, called LFO's, can also lift, leaving a snazzy light trail behind them. Renton is one of the many who love to lift. Unfortunately, he lives in a town without the waves needed to do it properly!  But when a LFO crashes into his shed he becomes involved with the elusive lift gang, Gekkostate. He immediately falls in love with Eureka and spends all his free time trying to woo her.
It is a very simple plot! Nothing particularly shocking happens... there's not even any cliffhangers! The whole thing almost seems boring! But it boils down to being a sweet plot about Renton building relationships with all the people on the Gekkostate with somee fancy LFO fights here and there. It's hard to believe that this vaguely romance plot with fights manages to last for 50 episodes!

But I have to love all the people in Gekkostate! Renton is such an idiot that everyone there teases him! Except Eureka who just seems like a stupid robot. What people call uncool, she calls amazing (in her monotone robot voice). She seems to care more about the LFO's than Renton actually! Also, there's three children on the ship, and for some reason, Eureka has ended up being their mum! It doesn't make sense but the kids are cute and mischievous and just add to the pick'n'mix of people at Gekkostate.
The art style is standard. I like the variety in what the people look like. Reston looks relatively normal, but the rest all have their own distinct style. It's really cool! I like Talho with her short clothing wild hair and a sticker on her face to match her crazy and flirtasious personality! And Eureka, whose pale skin and clothes with her distinct eyes make her even more like a robot. So, although the art itself isn't that interesting, I absolutely LOVE the character design. The animation is really good too! Sure, there's a lot of scenes that barely move... But those LFO fights! Lots of LFO's moving in all directions firing various lasers and guns. And the electric light thing that trails the back of the board looks so pretty! It comes so naturally and flows without being forced. Shame they didn't always put this amount of detail in...
It must be said that with such a boring plot, I cannot watch 50 episodes. Which is a shame, because I bet the characters really develop nicely! And I DO love them! Both in personality and design, they're a delight! But with the plot being so BORING and not moving anywhere... I don't think I can continue! If only they made the plot more action-packed, or more romantic, or more comedic... or more anything really!!

(This trailer really doesn't match with what I said in my review.... ^^)
