Level E

Level E is short sci-fi anime about all the aliens on earth. The problems start when an Alien prince "crashes" on earth. I put "crashes" in speech marks because after a few episodes we soon realise that the whole thing was a plan by the prince to test the loyalty of his subjects. After having so much fun on Earth, the Prince makes arrangements to become the earth's head of defence. Thus, starts the chaos. With various plans and ambitions and a head for trouble the anime is sent spiralling out of control! It's difficult to say whether this is a good thing or not, but it is certainly spontaneous. Since this series aim appears to be 'invent as many aliens as possible', it can get quite confusing in that respect as well.  Not quite knowing who's who and half guessing things. It wasn't a major problem but it's bound to happen when there's about a MILLION different aliens running about. However, the complete insanity of the series leads me to believe that it shouldn't bother me.

The strangest thing though is how they use their characters. The only constants in this show are the Prince and his three subjects. There's a couple of earthlings in the first three episodes which are play an important role, but after that story arch we don't hear from again! So, I won't bother telling you what those guys are like. You'll just have to watch the show yourself. The four aliens are all very 2D. From the first episode you know their personalities: the Prince who is very smart but just enjoys being awkward and causing problems; Craft is the hot-tempered leader who constantly needs retraining in order not to kill the prince; Sado lacks emotions and a tone of voice, he's the smart one who makes all the rational decisions and finally there's Colin, the young naive boy of the group who doesn't seem to have any particular skills. The art depicts they're personalities with ease. Nothing to be amazed at, but the aliens can be quite pretty and interesting. Then, in episode four the art is turned completely on it's head to depict a totally new plot wit dull colours and smudgy lines, it's very curious.
Level E is a sprint, the speed is hard to keep up with. If you think your mind is fit enough to keep to stick to their pace then this short series is really good! However, if your feeling a bit sluggish it'll go straight over your head. But it is genuinely hilarious!! The Prince's jokes that are said with such a straight face followed by Craft's rage is enough to crack me up. Top it off with Sado's rational comment and you have the ultimate comedy!!
