Me Too, Flower!

This weeks k-drama is very different to any other k-drama I've watched. There's a lot of difference but basically they all stem to the age difference. Most shows I watch are about older teens, I've watched a couple with young adults, but I'm a Flower too has a heroine of 31 years old! Cha Bong Sun, officer at her local police station, feeling distressed and wronged after missing out on her promotion she's sent to counselling sessions with Hwa Young. She also finds herself having numerous encounters with Jae Hui who appears to be a valet parker and barely paying his rent. But in actual fact, he's a billionaire and secret co-founder of Perche. Representitve Pak, who founded Perche with Jae Hui has been extremely messed up since Jae Hui accidentally ran over her husband. She's also Hwa Young's cousin. You can quickly see how tangled this web of connections gets, especially when you add in Bong Sun's step-sister in who finds herself quite involved with Jae Hui, Representitve Pak and Hwa Young.

It's a bit of social comedy, watching people change and react to the varing people and the connections between all the characters is complicated, but interesting!! I think it gives a good insight into the ways of Korean society, there's all sorts of disagreements about the right ways to address one another, the right amount of formality needed and who fits into the different parts of society. Although not understanding Korean and lacking problems of the sort in England, it can be difficult to keep up. But the subbers done a good job on the translator notes so it was actually very informative.
But the romance is, as usual, totally over the top! Constantly switching between loving each other and hating each other. Although, to be honest there was very little loving. Which makes for a pretty depressing show if I'm being honest!! But I suppose it's better than stupidly cheesy love scenes, a whole lot more realistic.
The characters from this show are unlike any I've seen before. Like I said, for a start they're a lot older than most, but the remarkable thing about them is that ALL of them are pretty messed up in the head. Cha Beong Son is having counselling for depression. She had a pretty rubbish childhood and now spontaneously switches between being violent and angry or pitiful and cute. A very unique heroine who very much enjoys being an independent woman. Her step-sister is a bit of a fruit loop too! She spends all her money on buying the biggest brands to pretend she's from an upper-class. She's completely materialistic but her honesty is so unique!! All the characters have their own problem's and they are all realistic!! So different to most things!!
Me Too, Flower! is easily the most unique K-drama yet, which is good because I was beginning to wonder how similar all K-dramas end up!! Although, as a shojo lover I missed the ridiculous lovey-dovey moments but it is a lot more realistic. So, do you like a more serious tone to your dramas? I don't, but I must say, it was very engaging. It might not be the typical tragic love story that I adore, but for the type of story that it is, it's brilliant!
