Personal Preference

This is my third drama with homosexuality in it, but this time it's very different because there is no cross-dressing people, just some big misunderstandings. Jeon Jin Ho is a budding architect who wants to enter the Dam Art Gallery Project. This project is supposed to be based on the Sanggojae but this makes it very difficult for every one as the Sanggojae has always been locked to outsiders. The owner of said house is Park Gae In and after being betrayed by those closest to her she has no choice but to sublet one of her rooms. Of course, a lady living on her own couldn't rent the room  out to a man. But what if the man was gay? Then there wouldn't been a problem, so after several misunderstandings Jin Ho has to pretend to be gay to stay with Gae In. But with Gae In being such a careless loud mouth Jin Ho is constantly forced into awkward situations. Thus, start the chaos! There is also the addition of Chang Ryul and In Hee who cancelled their wedding because they both had other lovers. Trying to work out the true intentions of theese two is difficult because although Chang Ryul refuses to let go of In Hee he keeps returning to Gae In, his other lover. I'm not even going to get into the criss-crossed love square that's formed!

It has a lot to do with the work of business men and women and how they are constantly using connections to make things works out, it shows lots of people using each other. It also has all kinds of hidden feelings as the people try to keep their personal emotions out of their work. Although it's a very entertaining plot, there is definitely a problem with pacing. Episodes full of story and action then episodes that appear to achieve nothing.... It's really annoying to be honest with you. All the business deals and pretending and deceiving is all very well, but add in the love lines and it gets quite confusing. Especially Chang Ryul who appears to change who he loves every episode!! Although they are complex, I can honestly say their not cheesy. Most love lines were either previously established or very slowly built up in reasonable situations. Whether that's a good thing or not is up to you. It doesn't have all that "Oh, I love you" and "Oh, I hate you" of most dramas because of the whole "Oh, he's gay" thing which is simultaneously cute, funny and annoying!! Cute because of the secret loving looks and concerned glances; funny because of how awkward things get because of the misunderstanding and annoying because I just really want them to get together!!
The characters in this drama are mostly business men and women which means there is all kinds of fake smiles and flattery so it's very interesting watching Park Gae In be so sincere. Even though she got betrayed she is still so kind to people and never doubts them. She's a careless fool and is so easily abused, she's always in pitiful situations.... But you just have to love her for it!! Which is basically what happens to Jin Ho, although he starts very business minded, he slowly becomes more concerned than necessary, it's so cute watching his face slowly soften towards Gae In!!
The acting, I would say, is good! I'm a fan of Lee Min Ho (Jeon Jin Ho and Gu Jun Pyo in Boys Over Flowers) so watching his gradual change of this story is too brilliant, both his awkward expressions and his caring expressions where perfect for this character!! Son Ye Jin must of tired her self out playing the ever energetic Park Gae In, but I must say that her depressed face looked more like that of some one who was looking for their shoe. I can't say I was completely convinced by that. But in general, the business men and women who have sudden bursts of emotions where well portrayed.
This is easily the least cheesy drama that I have watched and I can't really judge if I like that or not. I think the concept of pretending to be gay to stay in the same house as a lady is a pretty amusing concept. Also, I like examining the social opinions of what makes a proper man and women, which I find really interesting. Being a 'proper man' or a 'proper woman' is quite a focus, more interesting than their slowly developing romance in my opinion. Looking at the social aspects portrayed in this drama is really enriching for me so I quite like this. But if you wanted one of those fangirl-squel inducing shows, this is not the right show, because it's not very emotional. It lacks the power to make me feel like crying or roll about giggling so really, as a romance drama, it's lacking.
