Pink Lady

This about a Korean manga, not apples.

Well, I call it a manga, but it's not really. It's called a webtoon (thank wiki for that!), so not only is it in full colour, it's not really manga art-style. It's not westernised enough to bee called a comic, but it's definitely unlike any manga I've read.
The plot is relatively unique aswell! Winter meets David at collage; David and Winter are actually childhood friends; David and Winter love each other and fight all the challenges they encounter together! Okay, I admit, I've read plenty of Romances where that happens, but this one really stands out! For a start, it's not just set in a normal high school, it's very obviously set in an art school. Now that probably sounds rather insignificant, but it actually changes the whole manga because everything has that artistic feel behind it. Everything just works because they're in art school!

The characters are great, nothing outstanding, but I truly love them! Winter reminds me of myself; she get's called short, she's quite violent and energetic! She also wears cute clothes and is so sweet!!David is just a really kind guy, well he has to be really, Winter beats him up so much!
Art is the main feature of this manga, I could probably get through the original because it's just so beautiful! The skill in the artist is just amazing!! The usual art used is very soft and calming. All the lines fade and blend and look so gentle! All the texture is done to an outstanding precision and all the effects are drawn perfectly and confidently! The eye's are really extravagant, not in a manga like way though. But it also incorporates other styles of art as well. The art looks like childish crayon's when they flash back to their childhood and they parody some famous paintings.
Reading it at it's original source (here) does cause a few problems. For a start, it's been presented in one long strip per chapter, rather than separating it into pages. But that's not really a problem, it's easy to adapt to such format. The main problem is in the translation, "I wants to draw good!" isn't quite right. But I'm sure someone's translated it properly if you look hard enough. So that's just a bit of a warning to you all if you wish to read this.
On a more pleasing note, this is hilarious!! They have all kinds of comedy, so you're bound to laugh! Typical manga jokes are used - such as one getting stuck in the ceiling after one other kicks them - but this manga is way too original too stick purely to traditional jokes. The parodies of famous paintings that I mentioned earlier were usually used for  comedic effect, which is very unique and refreshing. There is also a certain amount of subtle humour, humour you might not notice at first but is actually very funy. The best part is that all this comedy actually works, making it a very entertaining manga! What's more, all these points can be applied to the romantic moments! Some subtle, some traditional manga and some very unique one's. So, not only is this an entertaining manga it's also very cute!!
So, what's to lose in this manga? Sure, it's very girl oriented and maybe some of the jokes will be lost on some people. But I don't really have any proper complaints to make about this manga! I would call it my favourite manga... But it's just so original, so different from manga, that I can't really compare it! So let's just say that I really love it!!

  1. You won't be able to find past chapter, I think about 7, online with english subs ^^; Except for there, as the artist had to complain, otherwise they wouldn't have got their money for doing the comic - or something like that... That site is the only legal (I think) way of reading it in English ^^
